ECHL Series Recap: Greenville Swamp Rabbits vs Kansas City Mavericks | 03/14-16/2025

Friday started a three-game series between the Kansas City Mavericks and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. This is the first time the Mavericks have faced the Swamp Rabbits since 2019. The Mavericks played with a roster of new names, with several key players either called up to the Coachella Valley Firebirds or sidelined with injuries.

Game One

Friday’s game was a disappointing loss for the Mavericks, even though they outshot the Swamp Rabbits 51 to 27. Alex Aslanidis made his second start as a Maverick, stopping 23 out of 26 shots on goal. The Swamp Rabbits Jacob Ingham was able to stop 50 of 51 Mavericks shots, helping to lead the team to victory. Brent Pedersen scored three goals for the Swamp Rabbits, while John Parker-Jones added the fourth. David Cotton scored the Mavericks’ lone goal in the third period, with Jimmy Mazza being the first assist and Mitchell Allard recording his first assist as a Maverick on the play. The Mavericks went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Swamp Rabbits converted two of their four opportunities.

Game Two

In Game Two, the Mavericks secured a better outcome with a 3-2 overtime victory. In the first period, Zack Trott netted his first goal as a Maverick. The Swamp Rabbits responded in the second period with a goal from Tate Singleton, evening the score. Nathan Dunkley then scored his first goal as a Maverick, putting the team back in the lead. However, Singleton struck again in the third period, tying the game at 2-2 and forcing overtime. The overtime goal by Landon McCallum secured the win for the Mavericks. Noah West, making his debut as a Maverick, was able to stop 25 of the 27 shots, while Pierce Charleson, in his debut game as a Swamp Rabbit, was able to stop 21 of 24 shots. 

Game Three

Game three was a tough battle for both teams, with the Mavericks coming through for the win. In the first period, Damien Giroux was first on the boards for the Mavericks with a power play goal. Shortly after, on a delayed penalty call, Marcus Crawford scored an empty net goal for the Mavericks. Bryce Brodzinski was able to put the Swamp Rabbits on the board, ending the period with Mavericks in the lead 2-1. In the second period, Drake Burgin made his first goal as a Maverick, further lengthening the Maverick’s lead. Austin Saint scored for the Swamp Rabbits to end the period in the Mavericks favor 3-2. In the third period, Landon Mccallum scored the fourth goal, giving the Mavericks a two-point lead. Bryce Brodzinski made the loan goal for the Swamp Rabbits in the third period. A late goal by Luke Loheit helped to secure the Maverick a 5-3 victory over the Swamp Rabbits.  The Swamp Rabbits Jacob Ingham saved 23 out of 28 shots, while Noah West, in his second game as a Maverick, was able to stop 22 out of 25 shots to help lead the team to victory.

Standings

The Kansas City Mavericks took the series 2-1 and secured 4 points, giving them a solid six-point lead in the Mountain division standings with the Tahoe Knight Monsters in second place. The Mavericks are currently in second place in the Western Conference behind Toledo Walleye, who have clinched a spot in the playoffs. The Mavericks face off against the Utah Grizzles at home for a three-game series Wednesday night.
