The ECHL Department of Players Safety has announced that they’ve suspended Trois-Rivieres Lions defenseman Brycen Martin two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions in Friday Night’s game vs Maine Mariners. Martin would deliver an elbow to the head of Maine’s Jimmy Lambert at the 19:21 mark of the third period; he would be assessed a major penalty for elbowing and a game misconduct. The 28-year-old defenseman will miss tonight and tomorrow’s games vs Worcester Railers. Martin has a goal and three assists for four points in nine games this season. The former third-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2014 is in his second year with the Lions and eighth in the ECHL, as he’s put up 26 goals and 101 assists for 127 points in 383 career games. He’s also added two assists in 10 career ECHL Playoff Games. Martin also spent ten games in Poland during the 2020-21 season, putting up one goal and four assists for five points.
This is a huge loss for a Lions team that was already playing a man short with the loss of Israel Mianscum, who is week to week with a lower-body injury, and Morgan Adams-Moisan, who still has one game left on his suspension. Saturday will be a big test for the Lions, as they will likely be down two skaters vs. Worcester before they get Adams-Moisan back for Sunday’s game. The Lions have won five of their last six games heading into Saturday.
