Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs Los Angeles Kings | 01/02/2024

The Leafs didn’t end off 2023 on a high note and will look to change things as they face off against a good Kings team in their first game of 2024. The Leafs will be in their Next Gen jerseys, which they seemingly haven’t had too much luck in. With Samsonov passing through waivers, Martin Jones gets the start and will look to help contribute towards a hopeful Leafs win. Let’s take a look at some lines below.

Leafs Projected Lineup

Three Things to Look Out For

Kämpf

After playing more than 200 NHL games in a row, David Kämpf was a healthy scratch last game. Kämpf made some defensive mistakes in the last game he played and ultimately was chosen as the one to try and send a message to this Leafs time. Look for Kämpf to have a bounce-back game tonight.

McMann

McMann has had a spot in the lineup every game since Reaves got injured, and with Reaves practicing with the team, McMann will need to continue to prove why he should be in the lineup. McMann has a solid shot and isn’t afraid to get physical, but some of those traits haven’t been shown fully at the NHL level. It’s hard to be fully effective when you get less than 10 minutes on the ice per game, but it’s important to be adaptable.

Benoit

Simon Benoit has been a delightful addition to this Leafs team. He plays a simple and physical game, and things generally have leaned in the Leafs favor when he’s been on the ice. He’s ahead of both Lagesson and Timmins and seems to be holding his spot in the lineup for now. Keep an eye on Benoit as he looks to have another solid game tonight.

Tonight’s game starts at 10:30 p.m. EST on Sportsnet!
