The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $4.125 million annually with defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. Gostisbehere recently split his 2022-23 season between the Arizona Coyotes (52 games) and the Carolina Hurricanes (23 games). Gostisbehere provided stability for both Arizona and Carolina, though he looked really in place when he joined Carolina.

Shayne Gostisbehere Stats

Carolina acquired Gostisbehere at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline for a 2026 third-round pick. Though Gostisbehere is a shell of his former self, he certainly has shown that he is still a solid player given the right circumstances. Carolina got three goals and seven assists for ten points from Gostisbehere, and Arizona got ten goals and 21 assists for 31 points out of Gostisbehere.

The 78th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Gostisbehere had great potential and could be a diamond in the rough for Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman. Gostisbehere had his best sample of games with the Hurricanes, showing that he can be defensively sound, but he just needs a solid defensive partner that he has great chemistry with.

Shayne Gostisbehere will be an unrestricted free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season.
