As the trade deadline approaches on March 7, the Boston Bruins are taking calls on several players and are in a position to make moves that can help the team now and in the future. Scoring has been an issue this season for Boston, and there is a market for veteran top-six forwards. One player that is rumored to be available is Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann.

Sportnet’s Jacob Stoller says that the Kraken could make the leading scorer in Seattle’s short history available. The Kraken selected McCann from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the expansion draft and he has realized his potential as an offensive threat ever since. The 28-year-old has scored 110 goals and 224 points in 290 games in his time in Seattle and tallied a career-high 40 goals two seasons ago.

This season, McCann has recorded just 14 goals and 42 points in 57 games with a career-low 10.9 shooting percentage. Typically, shooting the puck has been a strength of the 2014 first-round draft pick. The Ontario native has been a center but is currently playing left wing. McCann has played a career-high 17:38 of average ice time this season.

What would make McCann attractive to the Bruins is his ability to replace the potential departures of Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie on the wing and provide Boston with a winger to play with David Pastrnak. McCann’s contract is also attractive. The 6-foot-1 190-pound forward has two years left on his contract with a salary cap hit of $5 million per year. McCann will get paid $4.25 million per season in actual cash. The 31-year-old would be in the fold for at least two more seasons at an affordable rate with the cap rising.

Other teams who are reportedly in the mix for McCann are the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets. The Bruins would have to outbid those teams and might not have the resources to do so. However, it is worth a phone call to see if the Bruins can add another offensive player to the roster.
