Winnipeg Jets News & Roster Moves 10/08/2023

The Winnipeg Jets are closing in on their season opener, where they will face off against the Calgary Flames. However, on the road to their first road game against the Calgary Flames, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, and head coach Rick Bowness have made some roster tweaks leading up to game one.

Roster Moves

The Winnipeg Jets placed Collin Delia, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, and Kyle Capobianco on waivers for the purpose of assigning them to the Manitoba Moose. Delia being assigned to the minors isn’t surprising to me. The Jets were able to sign former backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit, and Brossoit looked like he never left. As for Jonsson-Fjallby, he was beaten for the final forward jobs by newly acquired forward Rasmus Kupari and depth forward David Gustafsson.

The interesting waiver move is Kyle Capobianco, a depth defenseman for the Winnipeg Jets who used to own the eighth defenseman job. This means the Winnipeg Jets will look at their 2018 fifth-round, 150th overall NHL Entry Draft selection, Declan Chisholm. Chisholm has only played two career NHL games during the 2021-22 season. Now, Chisholm can work his way into a more significant role within the Jets organization. This worked for the Winnipeg Jets when Dylan Samberg reached the NHL level and finally earned his spot. The Jets are hoping for cap reasons that they find the same magic with Chisholm.

Winnipeg Jets Set 23-Man Roster for 2023-24 Season

The Winnipeg Jets have made their final cuts and now carry 23 players on their roster. The Jets hope that Ehlers is able to resume practicing with the team on Monday. Looking towards this season, Ehlers can be a massive addition to the team if healthy. For anticipated lineups, see below.

The team will travel together; the only exception to this is Ville Heinola. In one of my previous articles about Heinola’s injury, I noted that he was sent back home due to his injury.
