Knight Tales: History of the Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were established in 2017 as an expansion team and became the first major professional sports team in Las Vegas. They play in the National Hockey League (NHL) and are a part of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference.

In June 2017, the franchise participated in the NHL Expansion Draft, which involved the selection of players from the league’s current teams. The Golden Knights constructed a strong team fast by making some calculated decisions. They became the first expansion team to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals in their first season of existence (2017–2018), surpassing all expectations along the way. Despite not winning the title, their incredible performance won many fans all around the world. During the 2018 NHL draft, due to trades, the Golden Knights didn’t make their first selection until the end of the second round, when they selected Ivan Morozov 61st overall, who has yet to make his NHL debut.

The following seasons after that, the newly-experienced team’s success continued. They demonstrated their outstanding teamwork, talented players, and devoted fan base by making the Stanley Cup Playoffs every year of their existence so far. The Golden Knights are renowned for their thrilling approach to hockey, which combines a powerful offensive and formidable defensive line. The passionate fans known as the “Golden Misfits” bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the team’s home games at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Off the ice, the Golden Knights have made a positive impact on the Las Vegas community. They have been involved in various charitable initiatives, supporting local organizations and helping those in need. The team’s commitment to community engagement has made them beloved not only for their on-ice success but also for their off-ice contributions.

Last season, the team did what many thought was impossible. They went to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they beat every team they faced, and won the Stanley Cup. The underdogs took the big win, and during their celebratory parade in the streets of Vegas, William Karlsson went viral. Many of the players were drinking to celebrate, and Karlsson, or Wild Bill, gave a now-famous drunk speech that will now follow his name forever.

So far this season, with a 20-5-5 record, the Vegas Golden Knights are the top team in the entire NHL. Currently, Jack Eichel leads the top team in goals (12) and points (33). Following him is the team’s captain, Mark Stone with ten goals and 29 points.

As the Vegas Golden Knights continue to make their mark in the NHL, their story serves as a reminder of the power of teamwork, determination, and the unwavering support of fans. They have quickly become a symbol of pride for the city of Las Vegas and have solidified their place in the hearts of hockey fans worldwide.
