New Jersey Devils Sign Cal Foote

NHL.com

The New Jersey Devils announced on Wednesday that they have signed Cal Foote to a one-year, two-way deal worth $800,000 at the NHL Level and $350,000 at the AHL level, with a guaranteed $400,000. Foote, the older brother of Nolan Foote, joins the Devils after spending his first six seasons in the Tampa Bay Lightning organization as he was the club’s first-round pick in 2017. The Lightning also drafted Nolan in the first round as Tampa took him 27th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. The Colorado Native was traded to Nashville for Tanner Jeannot at the trade deadline last season; in 50 games last season, Foote put up two goals and five assists for seven points. In his three years in the NHL, Foote has put up five goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 141 games and added two assists during the Tampa Bay Lightnings Stanley Cup run in 2021. This is a depth move for the Devils as they already have seven defencemen signed to AHL deals, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see Foote get some playing time down in Utica and be a guy that the Devils can call up if an injury arises at the NHL Level.
