WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Railers hosted the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday evening at the DCU Center for their annual St.Patrick’s celebration game, but the home team had little to celebrate regarding their results on the ice, falling to the thunder by a score of 5-1. The Railers wore their specialty white and green jerseys, which were auctioned off during, and after the game. The proceeds of the jersey auction benefited the “Be Like Brit” foundation.

The two teams would be tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period. Adirondack’s Grant Jozefek would start the game scoring at 16:09, and Worcester’s Jake Pivonka would tie the game at 1-1 with 1:39 left to play in the first period. The second period saw Adirondack scoring three times, the first coming at 3:15 on a goal by Andre Ghantous, his first professional goal. Ryan Smith would score a power play goal at 4:33, and Shane Harper would push the lead to 4-1 at the 17:09 mark, ending the scoring in the second period. The only scoring in the third period was an empty net goal by Adirondack’s Mike Gillespie. John Muse started the game for Worcester (16 shots-12 saves), and was pulled late in the second in favor of Cole Ceci. Cici would face 9 shots for 9 saves for the remainder of the game.

The three stars of the game were:

  1. ADK- Vinnie Purpura
