CEDAR PARK, Texas – Saturday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Iowa Wild 3-2, completing their weekend sweep of the series.
The Stars got on the board early in the first period when Chase Wheatcroft received a pass from AHL assists leader Mavrik Bourque and put a snap shot past Iowa goaltender Jesper Wallstedt. Iowa’s Adem Beckman would tie the game 1-1 less than a minute later. Fredrik Karlstrom put the Stars back in the lead when he tipped in a pass from Matej Blumel, making it 2-1. The only goal in the second period came when Logan Stankoven added to his league leading points total when he scored his 24th goal of the season making it 3-1. In the third period, Iowa’s Nic Petan cut the Stars lead to 1 when he scored on a power play slapshot from the top of the circle. The Stars Remi Poirier secured the win with 24 saves on 26 shots.
