Sale of Ottawa Senators Nearing Completion: Potential Suitors Await Next Steps

CBS Sports

The Ottawa Senators have been up for sale since November 2022, and the process has been a lengthy one. However, according to recent reports, the sale of the franchise could be completed within the next month. Potential suitors have been waiting for the next steps in the process, and the final bids for the Senators could be due in mid-May.

If the sale goes through, it could be a new era for the Senators. The team has struggled in recent years and has not made the playoffs since 2017. Finding the right goaltender has been a crucial issue for the team, as well as winning on the road and quality shots. However, with new ownership and fresh perspectives, the Senators could potentially turn their fortunes around.

The National Capital Commission remains confident that the new owners of the Ottawa Senators will want to build a rink at LeBreton Flats. If all goes as planned, the Senators and the National Capital Commission will come to a lease agreement for the land, and the Senators will have a new home.

Even though Forbes valued the club to be worth $800 million last year, we have seen reports of over $900 million. NHL Commissioner did mention that, at one point, there were 15 different bids and that the Melnyk estate was going to go through and narrow it down. Below are two of the top ownership groups.

The most influential and media relevant ownership group is The Remington Group. The Remington Group is owned by Rudolph Bratty, chairman and CEO, and his brother Jerry Bratty, chief operating officer which has been developing land in Ontario for the past 65 years. The reason they are everyone’s first choice is this is the ownership group that Hollywood Superstar Ryan Reynolds has hitched his personality to.

Another potential buyer is the DeVos family, who previously owned the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association. The DeVos family has reportedly submitted a bid for the Senators, but it is unclear how much they are willing to pay for the team.

The sale of the Ottawa Senators could be completed within the next month. Potential suitors are waiting for the next steps in the process. If the sale goes through, the Senators could potentially turn their fortunes around with new ownership and fresh perspectives with a brand new home!
