Steelheads Score Five Unanswered vs. Bulldogs To Secure Thanksgiving Weekend Win

The Mississauga Steelheads beat the Brantford Bulldogs 6-1 on Thanksgiving afternoon, scoring five unanswered to aid them to the win.

Coming into Sunday afternoon’s game, the Steelheads were looking to get back into the win column after losing to the Niagara Ice Dogs on Friday night. For the Bulldogs, they were looking to continue the momentum gained from a 5-2 victory over the Oshawa Generals on Saturday night.

Midway through the first period, Noah Roberts was sent off for holding, which sent the Steelheads to the powerplay, and that proved costly for the Bulldogs as Jack Van Volsen would lay it in the wheelhouse for Chas Sharpe as he wired the puck past Egorov for the game’s opening goal.

With the Steelheads controlling most of the play during the first period outshooting the Bulldogs 13-10, Cole Brown would tie up the game at 1-1 with a powerplay marker of his own.

The Steelheads would regain the lead halfway through the second period on a great pass from Angus MacDonnell that sent a streaking Luke Misa in, who put the puck upstairs.

The Steelheads were given a late second period powerplay and were looking to extend their lead, but as soon as the powerplay expired, Marc Boudreau found the loose puck in the slot and shot it past Egorov for the 3-1 Steelheads lead.

The Steelheads would go on to score three more in the third period, including an incredible goal by Porter Martone, who danced through Lucas Moore and put it through his legs for a goal-of-the-year candidate.

Ryerson Leenders has been playing amazingly so far and has put in another great performance against the Bulldogs. It’s going to be hard to beat the Steelheads when they have him starting.

When Can Newly-Drafted Prospects Break Through Into The NHL?

When do or can prospects make the jump to the NHL/AHL level? Most NHL prospects take 3-5 years post-draft to reach the NHL, with less than a third of first-rounders making an NHL team. Factors like skill development and individual progression dictate the timeline. Additionally, a strict NHL-CHL agreement impacts where prospects can play, depending on age. Any player under the age of 20 is ineligible to play in the AHL. NHL Entry Draft intricacies, entry-level contracts, Russian political issues and AHL stints shape a prospect’s journey.
