The Anaheim Ducks Ditched Bally Sports: What It Means for Fans

Anaheim Ducks Cam Fowler & Troy Terry stand next to information about Victory plus

The Anaheim Ducks have announced they will join Victory+, the same free streaming service the Dallas Stars adopted in July. Victory+ is fan-focused, offering a no-cost, ad-supported platform with minimal delays and a high-quality viewing experience. This move brings relief to local Ducks fans, who were worried the team might return to Bally Sports.

What Does This Mean for Ducks Fans?

All local Ducks TV broadcasts will now be 100% free on all devices for fans in the LA/OC and Hawaii markets. This accessibility boosts the Ducks’ visibility and helps attract new fans who might not have tuned in otherwise. This transition also means no more cable subscriptions or complicated streaming setups—just simple, free access to your favorite team.

In addition to the free streaming, the Ducks have partnered with KCOP-TV Channel 13, which will air 65 games over the air this season. You can just flip on your TV to catch these games without any subscriptions or additional costs.

Beyond live broadcasts, Victory+ will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content, such as player profiles and interviews. Previously, the Ducks lacked this depth of content, likely due to their restrictive contract with Bally Sports. Now, with 100% distribution rights in their local market, fans can look forward to more insider access.

Familiar Voices Return

Ducks fans will be pleased to know that longtime play-by-play announcer John Ahlers and analyst Brian Hayward are staying on. Kent French, Aly Lozoff, and Guy Hebert will also return to the broadcast team, ensuring consistency and familiarity for viewers.

Victory+ Launch and Availability

The Victory+ app is set to launch on September 11 and will be available through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and on certain smart TVs. Although it seems to be available for download today! According to Ducks President Aaron Teats, at least one preseason game could air on Victory+, and the October 12 season opener at San Jose will be the first of up to 78 regular-season games broadcast on the platform. The deal lasts two seasons, with an option to extend.

What About Ads?

Victory+ is ad-supported, which might raise concerns for fans. While ads will be a primary revenue source, the platform promises a low-latency feed and a high ad fill rate. The Ducks expect a revenue loss with the switch, but the goal is clear—making games more accessible to local fans.

For Out-of-Market Fans

There are no major changes for fans outside the LA/OC and Hawaii markets. You can still access games through ESPN+, SportsNet, or other previous channels. Plus, the Ducks will have four nationally televised games on TNT and ESPN, giving them more exposure to fans across the country.

This new era with Victory+ represents a significant step forward in how Ducks fans can engage with their team, bringing the game closer to home without any barriers or fees.
