Whether or not you’re a fan of the player or the team, you never want to see a player get knocked out of a game due to an injury. On Friday night, the Capitals were struck a blow when veteran defenseman John Carlson took a puck to the face and required immediate assistance.
During Friday’s matchup between the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets, Carlson was struck by a puck when a Brenden Dillion point shot rose up from the point, striking Carlson directly in the face.
On Christmas Eve the Capitals organization released an update:
#Caps John Carlson was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation following his injury during the third period of Friday’s game vs. WPG. Carlson was discharged from the hospital earlier today and remains under the care of team medical personnel. He is out indefinitely.
Hopefully, Carlson can recover quickly and rejoin the Caps lineup sooner than later, as the team seems to be on the right track. The Capitals have now won nine of their last ten games and have taken over the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They will need to continue their winning ways during the second half if they wish to make a playoff push, as the race for the two wild card spots is as crowded as ever.
The Islanders, Red Wing, Sabers, and Panthers are all within eight points of the Caps for that second and final wild-card spot. The way the Metro Division is playing out and the Caps currently sitting fifth in the division, a wild card spot is the only hope they have to make this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.
