Strengths

The first thing that stands out when viewing Stramel’s play is his NHL-ready physical presence and stature. He plays a power forward style game, can crash the net and center lane hard, and uses his size well to create space for both himself and his teammates. He skates well, especially for his size, and has a very strong stride that’s hard to knock off when he’s going. His compete and effort levels are always high; he’s always going to be giving his all. Stramel also has a very strong wrist shot that should lead to him being able to score goals from more than just the goal front at the NHL level.

Weaknesses

Stramel may never have some of the high offensive upside of some of those around him in this class. His ability to read the play and create for others can be a step slow at times. To reach his ceiling and reach his fullest potential, he may need to rely on others creating and opening up the play offensively where he can finish the play either with his shot or crashing the net.

Summary

While some may question Stramel’s ceiling, there’s no question he possesses a relatively safe floor. His size, competition, and shot should see him slot in nicely as a middle-six center for some team in the late first round.
