ECHL: Carter Turnbull Signs Overseas for 2023-2024 Season

It was just announced via Instagram that Carter Turnbull has signed with HC Banska Bystrica, a club in Slovakia.

Turnbull is no stranger to the league, as he made a late appearance in Slovakia last season after leaving the South Carolina Stingrays mid-season to join HKM Zvolen. With Zvolen, he posted one assist in six games of the regular season, and the club would finish with the silver, where Turnbull would record his first goal with the club during the post-season run.

Before departing the Stingrays, Turnbull tallied 24 goals and 18 assists and was an overall fan favorite in the low country.

Could this be a trend of players going overseas? Charlie Gerard, who was most recently with the Reading Royals, recently announced his decision to join the Nurnberg Ice Tigers after three years of professional hockey in the States.

Rumors are beginning to swirl that teammate Jonny Evans will follow Turnbull across the pond. Evans and Turnbull played at the University of Connecticut together, and both began their professional careers with South Carolina.
